Greetings….. I hope everyone has had a smooth start to the summer.

A few reminders……….

  1. We are looking for room parents. This is a great opportunity to fulfill your hours from home or work with phone calls and emails. I would like to see home/school communication about class and grade level projects and fundraising reach a new high! Just call the school and leave a message (you will be assigned to your child’s class)
  1. All students should have gone home with a study guide to be completed for the opening of school.
  1. If you have any change in plans about returning to St. Joseph’s please leave a message at your earliest convenience. As classes fill, we want to give anyone wishing the opportunity to attend St. Joseph’s.
  1. The Summer Sports Clinic with Mr. O’Brien will start on July 12. Students should report to caf. Wear light clothing. You may bring a water bottle, but snack and beverages will be provided. (Kindly put balance of $69. by check or cash in an envelope with child’s name on envelope)
  1. The High School Algebra program will begin on July 12. Students should report to Sr. Catherine’s room where Mr. Harrington will greet them. Snacks and beverages will be provided, but students may also bring a water bottle. All materials will be provided. (kindly put balance of $69. by check or cash in an envelope with child’s name on envelope).*Room is now air conditioned so light summer wear should be fine.
  1. Uniform Policy.
Due to new variations on the theme, I’d like to detail the uniform policy.

A.    The standard red plaid skirt/jumper and blouse and blue pants with white shirt and plaid tie , accompanied by black shoes is the standard uniform that may be worn at any time, and must be worn from Oct. 13 to May 1 and for all liturgical services
B.    The St. Joseph Gym Uniform may be worn on gym day with no substitutions. Otherwise, students may wear the standard uniform and change into gym clothes.
C.    The new warm weather option is khaki or blue pants, shorts, or skorts with any of the available polo shirts.

YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT REQUIRED TO PURCHASE THESE. If wearing skorts or shorts, students may wear sneakers with white socks.

  1.  Easy money……
A.    If using any general Mills products , please save the box          tops. Last year we received almost $1,000 for box tops (Thanks to parent coordinators Melanie Holtz and Diane MacDonald)

B.    Bonus Bucks from Stop and Shop…again an easy source of school revenue . All you need to do to register is to go online to www.stopandshop.com/aplus or call 1-877-275-2758 and register your Stop and Shop card with St. Joseph’s School id 07787. Then every time you shop, the school gets points. (thanks to parent coordinator Wendy McLellan for this year’s program).

Grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors can all participate!!!

Thank you so much and enjoy. We’ll continue to update website as is appropriate over summer and be mailing out the 2010-1011 student packets on August 1st.

Recent St. Joseph’s Grad initiates Fundraiser

General News

Recent St. Joseph’s Grad initiates FundraiserWhen St. Joseph student Courtney Erickson read about Bella Tucker in the May 9th issue of the Boston Herald, she knew she had to do something.

Bella Tucker is an eight year old girl from Londonderry New Hampshire and lived a very normal and active little girl’s life until last Easter. On that day she complained of a fever and headache and went to bed early. Her parents thought she had the flu. But by 5:30 am she developed a temperature of 103 and was rushed to the hospital.

Second Graders Bring Literature to Life

Children's Book Week....

Second grade students at St. Joseph School had the chance to really explore the characters they have been reading about. Participating in National Children’s Book Week, each student came to school dressed as the character from their latest book and reported to the class about the story as if he or she was said character. Students said they enjoyed being someone else even though it was just for a little while.  view full size slideshow

New Testing Program Reflects Solid Curriculum at St. Joseph’s

As part of a new assessment endeavor by the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Schools Office, all parochial school students took the new Stanford 10 Achievement Tests. The Stanford 10 has been recently reissued after updating the exam with contemporary educational requirements especially in the areas of interpretative and critical reading strategies and more sophisticated 21st century mathematics topics. Unlike the MCAS which measures a set criteria, the Stanford is a comprehensive test of all essential skills across the curriculum.

Dedication of Sr Elizabeth & Sr Catherine

General News

Dedication of Sr. Catherine & Sr. Elizabeth

Dedication Ceremony....

"WOW....what a night!!!! On Friday, May 7th, Saint Joseph School celebrated two outstanding woman, Sister Elizabeth and Sister Catherine. The evening was spectacular. With over 300 guests in attendance, Sister Catherine and Sister Elizabeth, were completely taken by surprise to see so many faces, old and new, in one room with one purpose in mind - to honor them. As the bagpipes played, family, faculty, alumni and friends joined together to make the evening a magical event and listen to many heartwarming stories by various speakers. By far, one of the most memorable moments was the hilarious and truly genuine roast by Mr. John Donato...Mr. Donato was a former colleague of the Sisters, at St. Joe's and he reminisced about "the good old days" with the Sisters.
