Greetings….. I hope everyone has had a smooth start to the summer.

A few reminders……….

  1. We are looking for room parents. This is a great opportunity to fulfill your hours from home or work with phone calls and emails. I would like to see home/school communication about class and grade level projects and fundraising reach a new high! Just call the school and leave a message (you will be assigned to your child’s class)
  1. All students should have gone home with a study guide to be completed for the opening of school.
  1. If you have any change in plans about returning to St. Joseph’s please leave a message at your earliest convenience. As classes fill, we want to give anyone wishing the opportunity to attend St. Joseph’s.
  1. The Summer Sports Clinic with Mr. O’Brien will start on July 12. Students should report to caf. Wear light clothing. You may bring a water bottle, but snack and beverages will be provided. (Kindly put balance of $69. by check or cash in an envelope with child’s name on envelope)
  1. The High School Algebra program will begin on July 12. Students should report to Sr. Catherine’s room where Mr. Harrington will greet them. Snacks and beverages will be provided, but students may also bring a water bottle. All materials will be provided. (kindly put balance of $69. by check or cash in an envelope with child’s name on envelope).*Room is now air conditioned so light summer wear should be fine.
  1. Uniform Policy.
Due to new variations on the theme, I’d like to detail the uniform policy.

A.    The standard red plaid skirt/jumper and blouse and blue pants with white shirt and plaid tie , accompanied by black shoes is the standard uniform that may be worn at any time, and must be worn from Oct. 13 to May 1 and for all liturgical services
B.    The St. Joseph Gym Uniform may be worn on gym day with no substitutions. Otherwise, students may wear the standard uniform and change into gym clothes.
C.    The new warm weather option is khaki or blue pants, shorts, or skorts with any of the available polo shirts.

YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT REQUIRED TO PURCHASE THESE. If wearing skorts or shorts, students may wear sneakers with white socks.

  1.  Easy money……
A.    If using any general Mills products , please save the box          tops. Last year we received almost $1,000 for box tops (Thanks to parent coordinators Melanie Holtz and Diane MacDonald)

B.    Bonus Bucks from Stop and Shop…again an easy source of school revenue . All you need to do to register is to go online to www.stopandshop.com/aplus or call 1-877-275-2758 and register your Stop and Shop card with St. Joseph’s School id 07787. Then every time you shop, the school gets points. (thanks to parent coordinator Wendy McLellan for this year’s program).

Grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors can all participate!!!

Thank you so much and enjoy. We’ll continue to update website as is appropriate over summer and be mailing out the 2010-1011 student packets on August 1st.

Enrichment Program on Anti-Bullying

Anti-Bullying

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BY Cheryl Pendenza, Co-Chair of Saint Joseph School Enrichment Committee, Medford, MA

On Friday, March 1, Saint Joseph School in Medford, MA presented two fun filled, interactive workshops for students in grades 5-6 and 7-8. By performing a series of sketches and using humor to connect with the young audience, ImprovBoston addressed a very serious topic. Bullying!
The students sat around the stage in the school cafeteria as ImprovBoston entertained, educated and allowed students to critique and comment as they acted out some serious situations. Students were encouraged to use respect, understanding and sensitivities to gain further insight of the emotions that may be associated with both sides of bullying. The actors allowed the children to make suggestions and comments to reshape the scene of the sketches. There was a lot of fun, laughter and clapping as the spontaneous exercises took place, but by no means was the topic taken lightly. Tone of voice, body language and the power of words were emphasized as well as the long term effects of cyber-bullying.

Come To Life

What better time of year to celebrate the Pilgrims than around Thanksgiving! At St. Josephs School, the 3rd grade students studied Life in Colonial Times. We started our journey with the Mayflower and learned a lot along the way. We had many discussions about the food that was eaten during this time and this did not include a Big Mac from McDonalds or a chocolate covered donut from Dunkin Donuts, but instead fish they had to catch themselves and meat that was hunted by the men and boys.
